These activities are divided into two categories: those which are provided by visiting specialist staff, thus incurring an additional charge, and those which are offered by members of staff free of charge. Clubs and activities may take place either at lunchtime or after school.

Our congratulations go to the children in Year 6, who have achieved an excellent set of results in their entrance tests for senior schools. Eight of our Year 6 children sat entrance examinations for a range of senior schools and every child was awarded a place at every school to which they applied, so we are celebrating 100% success once again!
We are also celebrating the award of 5 scholarships to four of the children – Charlotte, Heidi and Alex were awarded academic scholarships and Edward was awarded an academic scholarship and a sports scholarship.
The eight children were awarded a total of 13 places, as four of them sat for two or more schools.
The children’s success reflects their hard work, effort and determination to fulfil their potential and the school’s consistent, year on year success in entrance examinations to senior schools reflects the outstanding quality of the teaching staff, highlighting their ability to encourage each child to fulfil their potential. What a great start to 2012!

This week has been a busy one!
On Monday, several of the children from Years 5 and 6 enjoyed taking part in a Quick Sticks hockey tournament held at the UWE ground at Frenchay and the whole school enjoyed a series of CSI forensic science workshops.
On Tuesday, a very successful Open Morning was followed by several registrations for our EYFS.
On Wednesday, we welcomed Farmer Nick, who talked to our Year 6 children about ‘food miles’ whilst our children in Years 1 and 2 took part in a workshop based on the story of ‘David and Goliath’ and led by the Window Box Company. A defeat on the football pitch on Wednesday was followed by success on Thursday when six of our children from Years 5 and 6 travelled to Cirencester to take part in the ISA Cross-Country Trials. Immy and Ben ran well enough to qualify for the National Finals, so our congratulations go to them and to Rosie, Edward, Belinda and Alex who also took part.
Our week finished with Reception’s super assembly and a visit to Year 6 from Mrs Barbara Bell, author of their Latin textbook, Minimus. Small wonder that the children enjoy their school days so much!

Our congratulations this week go to the girls in Jazz Dance club, who have just received the results of their exams. Alexandra and Lucy danced exceptionally well and passed with a Distinction each in their Grade 2 exam. Paige, Rebecca and Darcey passed with a Merit each. Marina passed Grade 1 with a Merit. Ava, Anusha and Astrid passed their Pre-Primary exam. Well done, girls!

Congratulations once again to Jack, who has reached the finals of the Primary Maths Challenge, which take place in early February. This is a national competition and Jack has done exceptionally well to reach the finals.

Welcome back to everyone and Happy New Year! We are already celebrating our first success of the term, thanks to Jack, who entered a Sudoku competition held by the UK Maths Trust and designed for senior school aged children. Despite being so young, he was a winner and received a book token from UKMT. Well done, Jack!

On Thursday we held our first toddler morning. Eighteen pre-school children and their parents (and some grandparents) enjoyed Christmas crafts, biscuit decorating and signing with Mrs Nancekivell. Everyone had a great time and asked if it could be a regular event; watch this space for the date of our next toddler morning!

We have just released the 2011 edition of our Lark Magazine to celebrate our success, talent and hard work across the curriculum and show the breadth of our provision. This year we have included photos and/ or work from every child in the school as well as sections for each of our school trips and visits, school productions, charity fund-raising and the activities of our Parent Teachers’ Association. Phew, we’ve been busy this year!

Years 4, 5 and 6 had a wonderful day when they travelled to London. Year 4 went to the Museum of London, Year 5 to the Tower of London and Year 6 to the Imperial War Museum. An early start at 06:45 was followed by lots of singing on the coach until the first drop off point at the Imperial War Museum.
The children were somewhat of a tourist attraction themselves, with people commenting on their tidy uniforms, excellent manners and infectious enthusiasm!
