Mysterious rabbit shaped footprints began to appear all over the building throughout the week and excitement mounted until Friday morning, when the Easter Bunnies appeared in each of the classrooms to lead each class on a hunt for Easter eggs. The Bunnies were clearly mathematically able, ensuring that there were exactly the right number of eggs for each child in the school! The younger children, with shining eyes, thoroughly enjoyed their Easter Egg Hunt!

The children have been busy this week contributing to the mural in the corridor of the new building. We can now see hot air balloons, Concorde, the Matthew and SS Great Britain, the suspension bridge and several other iconic Bristol landmarks taking shape on the walls. It has been great fun and looks terrific! Our thanks go to the PTA for funding the mural.

Congratulations to our netball players, who won all of their matches to win the tournament held at Red Maids’ last Monday. They followed this with another victory in their match against Torwood House two days later. Well done, girls!

We started the week with a fantastic showcase from the children who are learning guitar, drums or recorder. The standard of playing was excellent and the children’s enjoyment in playing and performing in front of an audience of their peers, staff and parents was clear to see. We have some great talent in every year group!

Thanks to the hard work and efforts of Lottie W, we have enjoyed a fantastic day of activities in support of our fundraising initiative for the British Heart Foundation. Mrs Turner and Mrs Holland, both cardiac nurses, led our assembly whilst Mrs Hart provided musical accompaniment in the form of songs on the theme of a healthy diet and a healthy heart (and led by example by taking part in the accompanying exercises!). The children in Years 1-6 then enjoyed activity sessions led by Mr Bryan and completed games, competitions and puzzles on the theme of a healthy heart. Thanks to parents, staff, Mr Bryan, Mrs Turner, Mrs Holland and especially Lottie, for making today so successful!

We have commissioned a local artist to help us design and paint a mural on the internal walls of the new building. Following his introductory workshops, the children have all completed designs based on a Bristol theme and they will be involved in painting the mural in a few weeks’ time.

Our congratulations go to the children in Year 6, who have achieved an excellent set of results in their entrance tests for senior schools. Eight of our Year 6 children sat entrance examinations for a range of senior schools and every child was awarded a place at every school to which they applied, so we are celebrating 100% success once again!
We are also celebrating the award of 5 scholarships to four of the children – Charlotte, Heidi and Alex were awarded academic scholarships and Edward was awarded an academic scholarship and a sports scholarship.
The eight children were awarded a total of 13 places, as four of them sat for two or more schools.
The children’s success reflects their hard work, effort and determination to fulfil their potential and the school’s consistent, year on year success in entrance examinations to senior schools reflects the outstanding quality of the teaching staff, highlighting their ability to encourage each child to fulfil their potential. What a great start to 2012!
Results from previous years
2011 – 3 scholarships, 10 places gained by 8 children
2010 – 13 scholarships, 22 places gained by 13 children
